A few months ago I was I was in Florida for a Women for Gun Rights event and let me tell you, it was a WILD ride! Crazy, scary, liberating, eye-opening, and downright AMAZING all in one. If you missed it, I spent a few days at WOFT for some REAL self-defense training. Huge shoutout to Women for Gun Rights for inviting me to join a badass crew of women learning how to protect ourselves and prevent predators.
Women for Gun Rights is a nationwide, non-partisan group made up of strong, passionate women—daughters, moms, sisters—who are standing up to protect our Second Amendment rights.
What I love most is their heart behind it all: they believe education—not legislation—is the key to promoting firearm safety and preventing violence. Their mission is all about spreading real, honest information and reminding people that gun rights are human rights. They’re working hard to educate communities and lawmakers alike, and I’m just so inspired by what they’re doing. Definitely go check them out and learn more at womenforgunrights.org.
One of the most impactful parts of the event was the hands-on training—it was so eye-opening, y’all. I’m not gonna lie, I was super nervous at first, but by the end, I walked away feeling empowered, more confident, and incredibly grateful to have learned some real-life skills to protect myself.
We kicked things off with a simulated car-jacking scenario that gradually got more intense. Just when I was starting to feel semi-comfortable… they turned out the lights to replicate a nighttime situation. I totally FAILED that round (note to self: always check the backseat!), but I honestly loved how realistic it all felt—my heart was pounding the entire time.
The next day, we hit the gun range, and I felt way more at ease. Coming from Canada, I haven’t had a ton of experience with handguns, but now that I’m a dual citizen and have my concealed carry, it was amazing to learn from true experts. I walked away feeling so much more confident and capable—such a powerful reminder of the importance of training and being prepared.
💡 ALWAYS carry a high-lumen flashlight when you’re out and about (I got TWO of these! I’ve been trying to keep one on my person and another in the car at all times.)
📣 Don’t be afraid to use your voice—command that space, ladies!
💪 Be CONFIDENT with whatever self-defense tools you decide to carry. Own it!
I’m so grateful for this eye-opening experience and the amazing new friends I made along the way. If you ever have a chance to do some hands on training like this, I HIGHLY recommend! I would LOVE to take the whole fam back someday.
Supporting organizations like Women for Gun Rights is so important—because even the smallest actions can create real change. If you’re passionate about protecting our rights and empowering women, one of the easiest ways to show support is by giving them a follow on Instagram and subscribing to their site. It may seem small, but trust me—it makes a big impact! Let’s lift up the voices that are doing the work and help spread the word.
A lot of people said they would love to attend an event like this, so I’m curious– have you ever attended something like this, or do you wish you could? What’s something you want to be more confident with? Whether it’s being more aware and knowing signs to look for (or avoid), being a more confident shooter, using your voice as a tool or anything in-between. I’d love to hear your feedback and needs below!
