In a blog post from last year, I said that I wanted to find a way to get a weekend with my hubs and reconnect: two babies, busy jobs, and 2020 being a doozyyyyy of a year has made the last trip we went on together…5 years ago?! I guess I can’t blame everything on this year, but needless to say we NEEDED to get away together. Incredible hospitality and service combined for the ULTIMATE weekend getaway in our neighboring state of South Carolina at the Montage Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton. Just thinking about it makes me swoon, so relive it with me and then make a plan to visit ASAP!!
I don’t think I could say this with enough enthusiasm, but the rooms were SO cute! We stayed in a suite, with a little patio overlooking the lake and it was the best place for a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evenings. They have rocking chairs nearly everywhere you look and that just makes it feel SO southern and welcoming, and encouraged Tim and I to slowwwww our roll and just meander throughout the property on more than one occasion. We LOVED that they have bicycles for every guest to use, so you can pedal around between the resort and the village and back. The village is only a few minutes away by bike, so you can access everything you need without ever having to drive!! They had the MOST BEAUTIFUL trees everywhere with Spanish moss hanging down from them, and riding under them with views of the May River was one of the most picturesque things I’ve seen in awhile.
Even though it’s an ideal spot to relax, there’s no shortage of things to do. It’s the perfect combination of tons of fun activities to do whenever you want but also super relaxing/romantic. Also lots of activities for kids! The first thing we said was that Leni would’ve loved it, and we’re already trying to get back with the babies. And alone again. Hah. One activity that we really wanted to do was ride horses, but we ran out of time, so we definitely need to go back!
SPEAKING of activities, we shot 5-Stand (which is like sporting clays but you stay in one spot) and had the BEST instructor. Tim is a lot better at shooting clays that I am, but the instructor was able to teach both of us based on our skill level and our shooting significantly improved significantly by the end of the session.
Y’all. I think I had the BEST FOOD I’ve had in a looooong. We love, love, love food and judge trips based heavily on how good the meals were. The Octagon restaurant, within the Resort, was amazing. My favorites were their Avocado Sourdough toast for breakfast, Seafood Cobb for lunch, blistered shishito peppers and the Almond-Crusted Halibut for dinner. We also ate at the Canoe Club and they had the BEST fresh Oysters and Seared Scallops. Honestly, every bite of food we ate was the best food I’ve ever tasted. Plus they have a little market (RT’s Market) that has a large wine selection with gourmet items like meats and cheeses, so naturally we bought some wine when we arrived so we could sit on our patio and have a glass of wine before dinner. There’s an amazing ice cream shop called Melt as well that was a fan favorite, too. In the evenings, they have complimentary s’mores by the fire, which was equally adorable and delicious. It’s foodie HEAVEN.
A total standout activity that I cannot recommend enough was the “Picnic and Pedal” experience–it was a DREAM. We picked-up our bikes at the hotel and they were pre-packed with baskets full of lunch, Veuve Clicquot champagne, cookies, plastic champagne glasses and a picnic blanket. We rode along the boardwalk until we found a shady spot and had a picnic, overlooking the water, and watched ACTUAL DOLPHINS swim in front of us. It was insane and did not seem like real life and for a hot second I felt like it was a scene straight out of The Notebook or something.
I can’t say enough positive things about Montage at Palmetto Bluff, but I definitely can’t thank God enough for blessing me with Tim. It’s been a hectic year (a hectic few years, actually) and time away together felt like the ultimate treat to spend some time juuuust the two of us. Moms and dads, nourish yourself and your relationship; you deserve those moments straight out of a movie. Promise.

How fun! I worked at Palmetto for 2 years! Check out the cigar lounge next time, super cool in there!
Nice! I lied on Bluffton for 4 years. The area is absolutely gorgeous. I must say though.. I think a draft of the article was mistakenly uploaded!
What a fun experience. I would love to go there someday. Thanks for sharing.
