I’m so excited to finally share our custom built-in bunk room, a space we designed to be both functional and welcoming for family and guests. This double bunk bed setup was thoughtfully custom built to maximize space while still feeling cozy, intentional, and timeless. From hosting friends to creating a place our kids will grow into, this bunk room tour is all about practical design that still feels like home. The double bunk bed design allows us to comfortably host family while keeping the room open and uncluttered. It turned out better than I had even hoped, so let’s dive in!

When I started planning this room, I envisioned a space that was both stylish, functional, a cozy place for our guests while also being a space where Boone and Leni can one day have friends over and feel like they have their own space. I wanted this space to feel perfect for all ages – think grandma’s cabin where all the cousins might bunk up together over the holidays meets modern, timeless design.
Double bunk beds was the answer, but make them elevated, custom and basically built in.
Not to be dramatic, but Purple Beds quite literally has our hearts. When we were thinking through how we would redo our bunk room, I KNEW the only type of bed I would consider having is Purple Mattresses. I have a Purple Mattress in my room and absolutely SWEAR by it. With Purples GelFlex Grid Technology, the mattress adapts and molds to your body as you move throughout the night, relieving pressure in your hips and shoulders.
Boone and I even did their egg test, using one of our farm fresh eggs to place on the bed and jump on it, stomp on it, and try to crack it with everything we’ve got. Not going to lie, I was a little skeptical (and crying on the inside over potentially losing one of my chicken’s eggs!!), BUT I was absolutely blown away when the mattresses truly stood up to the egg test and PASSED! No wasted eggs for this mama! Check out the full egg test video here.

Our bunk room consists of four custom-built, fully-sized beds, stacked two on two with a staircase running up the middle. Each bunk has its own light fixture, the Tolson Caged Sconce from Rejuvenation, switch, and outlet to make the bed any of our guests are sleeping in feel a bit more personable to their needs. The upper bunks have a small shelf built into the railing of their bunks for an end-table-esque space while the lower bunks have a cubby built into the headboard for their extra storage space.
If you know me, you know the only option for bedding for making any kiddo or guest’s life sssssoooo much easier is Beddy’s bedding. Beddy’s bedding is a brilliant idea to make keeping beds looking neat and easier than ever. We have Beddy’s bedding on both Leni and Boone’s beds to help create good, but easy to maintain habits for Leni and Boone as they’re learning the importance of keeping their rooms clean. Beddy’s make any kiddos’ space look so much cleaner and put together.
From the very start, we knew Beddy’s would be our best option for bedding to keep things easy for any guest we have whether kiddo or adult. Their sheets are incredibly soft and I love that the bedding matches the space SO perfectly with all of their color and pattern options. Use my code: EVA for 20% off your purchase!

I believe that the little things make all the difference, which is why flooring and paint color were no small choice for me! I wanted to space to feel organic and clean while also feeling rustic and cozy. We weighed through a lot of options but landed on Alta Vista from Malibu flooring from Hallmark Floors for our floors and back wall of the bunks and Portsmouth from Sherwin Williams for the color of our bunks. This color compliments the flooring sssooo well. I’m so happy with how it turned out!!
