When we built our house in North Carolina, we chose different Scriptures for different rooms. Some were verses we had always loved, and some just felt like the perfect fit for that particular space.
We don’t live in that house anymore. Now that we’re in Franklin, I’m finding myself thinking about those verses all over again and how I want to incorporate Scripture into our new home.
Because while the houses change, the things we want our home to be centered around really don’t.
So if you’re building a house, renovating, or just love the idea of intentionally putting Scripture into your home, here are some of the verses we used in our North Carolina house, organized room by room. Make sure to save this one for your next build or renovation!

I love the idea of having Scripture right by the front door. It’s one of those places you see every single day without even really thinking about it.
A few of our favorites:
“You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.” — Deuteronomy 28:6
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” — Joshua 24:15
“Build houses and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce.” — Jeremiah 29:5
That last one is especially sweet if you’re building a house and hoping it feels like home for a long time.

If there’s one place in our homes where life happens, it’s the kitchen. It’s where we make meals, gather around the table, and somehow end up having some of our best conversations.
If there’s one room where you’re going to get a lot of mileage out of a Bible verse, it’s the kitchen.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” — Psalm 34:8
“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” — Hebrews 13:2
“Give us today our daily bread.” — Matthew 6:11
“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.” — Acts 2:46
And I love this one:
“He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.” — Job 8:21
Because if there’s one thing I hope happens around our table, it’s plenty of laughter.

The living room is where everyone ends up anyway, so this was a good place for verses about what we wanted the foundation of our home to be.
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” — Proverbs 24:3–4
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” — Joshua 24:15
“Love one another as I have loved you.” — John 13:34
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 3:11
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1
And one of my favorites for a home:
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” — Matthew 7:24

For the bedroom, we kept things centered around love, patience and marriage.
“Love is patient, love is kind.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” — Ephesians 4:2
“I have found the one my heart loves.” — Song of Solomon 3:4
Nothing complicated here. Just some really good reminders for the two people sharing a life together.

There’s something incredibly special about putting Scripture in our kids’ rooms.Words about courage, character, wisdom, kindness, faith, and knowing that they are deeply loved.
Some of the verses we chose were:
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” — 1 Timothy 4:12
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” — Proverbs 3:24
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.” — Proverbs 31:25–26
“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” — 1 Peter 3:8
“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” — Ephesians 4:2
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” — 3 John 1:4
I think these are especially beautiful for children’s rooms because they aren’t just reminders for our kids, they’re reminders for us as parents, too.

Okay, hear me out on this one.
Our closets might not seem like an obvious place for Scripture, but I actually loved the idea of putting these verses here because of the language of what we “put on” each day.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” — Colossians 3:12
“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” — Colossians 3:14
What a beautiful reminder to start the day with.

The bathroom might not be the first place you’d think about when it comes to Scripture, but I actually thought these verses fit perfectly
“Your beauty should come from within you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. This beauty will never disappear and is so precious to God.” — 1 Peter 3:4
“Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.” — Psalm 24:3–4
We spend plenty of time in bathrooms getting ready, looking in the mirror and worrying about how we look. A little reminder that there’s a whole lot more to beauty than what’s on the outside is never a bad thing.

If there is one room in the house that can always use a little encouragement, it might just be the laundry room.
“Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” — Psalm 51:7
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” — Psalm 51:1–2
Obviously, these verses are about so much more than laundry.
But I’ll admit, there’s something kind of fun about having a verse about being washed and made clean hiding behind the walls of the room where you’re constantly washing things.

Whether it’s a home office, a little desk in the corner, or the place where you sit with your laptop surrounded by approximately 47 things you should probably be doing instead, I love having Scripture connected to the work we do.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” — Colossians 3:23
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11
“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:6
And when something feels impossible:
“With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” — Mark 10:27
These are the kinds of verses I love having nearby when I’m working through a big decision, starting something new, or simply needing a reminder to trust God’s plan instead of trying to figure everything out on my own.
Looking back at our North Carolina house, I love that these verses weren’t part of the visible decor. They were tucked behind the drywall, in the rooms where we cooked dinner, got ready, did laundry, worked, slept and gathered together.
Now that we’re in Franklin and starting to make this house feel like ours, I’m looking forward to doing some version of it again. Maybe not the exact same verses or in the same rooms, but I love the idea of choosing Scripture that speaks to what we’re building as a family.
And if you aren’t building or renovating, a small frame, a handwritten verse or even a Scripture tucked inside a kitchen cabinet can be a simple way to do the same thing.
I just love having little reminders of God’s Word woven into the places where real life happens.
