It’s that time of year when we deck the halls, light the Christmas tree and get ready for our holiday parties! Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s it’s a holiday whirlwind, especially for those of us who are hosting. I LOVEEEE to host (sometimes I kick myself when I get overwhelmed, ha!) but at the end of the night, when everyone I love is gathered round and smiling, it is soooo worth it.
If you are hosting a party this year, you’re in luck! I’ve put together my TOP 5 HACKS that every host needs in their back pocket come holiday time. HERE WE GO!
This is an obvious one, but extremely ESSENTIAL. You don’t want to go with the flow when planning a party haha! Here’s my checklist anytime I sit down and start planning a party.
Y’all know I love a good charcuterie or “graze” board! It’s one of my favorite things to create and I ALWAYS have at least one out for guests when I host. They are perfect to put out as the party gets started so guests can graze at their leisure (and so they don’t get hangry before dinner)!
If it’s a holiday gathering, I like to GO BIG with multiple boards. Traditional meats, cheeses & spreads. Seasonal fruits and/or veggies. Desserts & candy. That sort of thing! I’ve linked some of my fave boards at the bottom of the blog!
There’s nothing worse than a crowded party where guests have nowhere to space out!
For larger holiday gatherings, set up a few different areas around the house where guests can mingle, sip and nibble. I like to set up my bar area, kitchen island, dining table and living room area! That way guests can make their way through the spaces depending how they’re feeling.
One of my favorite parts of hosting is setting the table! This is where I can whip out my linens and get creative. Plus, it completely elevates the look and feel of the party.
I don’t like to overcrowd the table (we have to make room for the wine of course!), so I like to lay out two table runners (length and width wise), add candles for added atmosphere, and a touch of florals or greenery. Then, for each guest’s setting, I lay out a charger plate followed by the dinner plate and topped with a linen napkin (and napkin ring if going that route). As you can see in this photo, the Modern Farmhouse Napkins have a POCKET for the silverware. TOTAL GAME CHANGER.
Holiday parties are the time to bring out all the stops! A warm, festive, and decorated space makes feel guests right at home. I always make sure to have plenty of soft lighting like candles (electric ones to not overpower the space with scents), decor centerpieces like the one pictured to the left (this makes it easier to save counter space so guests can sit and space out), and pops of natural greenery/florals (whatever matches the season).
There you have it, my “secret” hosting hacks! I’m gearing up for another busy hosting season, thankfully I’ve got this hosting thing preeeeeetty much down to a science now.
My love of hosting was a BIGGGG part of why I started Eva & Co. I wanted to design and curate a collection of beautiful homeware that made hosting a breeze, no matter when guests popped over. Here are some products to help you host this holidays season!!
