I just got back from two very different hunts, South Dakota and New Mexico, and wow, what a ride.

South Dakota didn’t exactly go as planned (yep… had to eat a little tag soup 😅). However, New Mexico completely redeemed me with an incredible bull elk hunt and memories I won’t forget anytime soon.

With hunting season officially here, I’ve been getting so many questions about my favorite gear, clothing, and must-have snacks. So, I figured I’d put everything in one place… my go-to items I never head into the field without.

Hunting Clothing That Actually Fits (And Performs)

When it comes to hunting apparel, SHE Outdoor from Bass Pro Shops is my go-to every season.

When it comes to layering, I’m a BIG believer that more is more! Temperatures can change so much throughout a hunt, and being able to add or take off a layer can make all the difference.

I always start with the SHE Merino Wool base layer T-shirt and pants, no matter if I’m hunting in warm weather or cold. Merino wool is one of my favorite materials because it wicks sweat and moisture away from your skin, helping keep you cool when you’re warm and warm when you’re cold. Plus, it helps with scent control, which is obviously a huge bonus when you’re hunting.

From there, I’ll usually layer on the SHE Outdoor Camo ¼ Zip. Then, depending on the weather, I’ll add my puffy vest. I’m a vest gal for sure! I love keeping my core warm while still having full freedom of movement in my arms. When it gets really cold, I’ll add a puffy jacket over the top.

One of the best things about these vests and jackets is that they’re so easy to pack. If I’m hiking in and start warming up, I can fold one up and throw it in my pack without it taking up a ton of room. Then, when the temperature drops or I get to my glassing spot, I can pull it right back out.

Layering is keyyyyy when it comes to dressing for hunts! You want to be prepared for whatever the weather throws at you without feeling like you’re wearing a giant, bulky coat all day.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to size-up your outer layer so they fit over your base layers!

Good gear makes allll the difference in the field. These are a few of my can’t-live-without favorites that make every hunt smoother, safer, and more fun:

• Bino Harness – Keeps my binoculars secure and easy to grab when I need them fast. Plus it’s lightweight and I can keep all my essentials within reach.

• Montana Knife Company Knife – Razor-sharp, dependable, and built to last. Perfect for everything from field dressing to camp chores.
• QALO QRNT Smart Ring – This thing is SO cool. It tracks my steps, sleep, recovery, and more. PLUS it comes with silicone bands to protect it from getting scuffed up in the field.
• Baseball Hats – I never hit the field without one. They’ve always been a staple for me. Usually you’ll find me in one of my Eva & Co. hats and I’m honestly so sad they’re no longer available. But don’t worry! I’ve linked a few similar options I love just as much.
• Bandana – My trusty must-have. Whether it’s keeping the bugs out of my face, or for wiping down gear, it always earns its spot in my pack. My original Eva & Co. ones are no longer available, but I’ve included a few great alternatives.

SNACKS: Fueling the Adventure

If you’ve ever spent a full day hiking, glassing, or tracking, you know snacks are non-negotiable.

I like to pack portable, nutrient-dense snacks that are easy to carry, require no prep, and give me sustained energy all day long. Nuts, trail mix, energy bars, and dried fruit are some of my staples.

Here’s what’s always in my pack:

• MTN OPS Big Sticks – MTN OPS just dropped these and they are SO GOOD! 20 grams of protein, easy to pack, and seriously delicious.
• Peanut Butter Packets – Great source of protein and healthy fats when you’re on the go.
• Sour Candy – Because balance. 😋 A little sugar boost when I need it most and honestly, it’s my favorite treat on long hunts (just don’t tell my kids)!

And don’t forget…hydration is key. In addition to snacks, always bring a reusable YETI water bottle and toss in a MTN OPS Hydrate to make it easy and tasty to stay hydrated all day long.
