This wild game Mississippi pot roast recipe is quite possibly the EASIEST recipe I’ve ever made. With a total of 4 ingredients that slow cooked in our crockpot all day and had our house smelling AMAZING, it totally blew me away. Minimal effort, only 4 ingredients, but jam packed with flavor and one we are DEFINITELY making on repeat in our house.
A friend actually suggested this to me to make and share with y’all and after hearing all the rave about it, I had to put it to the test. Spoiler alert.. it passed and got a solid 15/10 from us!! I mean.. only 4 ingredients that took approximately 5 minutes to throw into the crockpot while I went on with my day? I can totally get down with that.
The serving possibilities are wide here. I served mine open-faced on some fresh, homemade sourdough with a little cheese and herbs from my garden, but you can add this on top of some mashed potatoes, a sandwich roll, or even with some potato chunks and carrots like your typical pot roast.
To start, you’re gonna need some wild game and for this recipe, I chose a sirloin tip cut from my Hawaii Axis deer. Sharing some throwback pics from the hunt because it was a dream and he was BEAUTIFUL. There are so many great things about hunting, but obviously the best is bringing it home and cooking a field to table meal for your fam. Whenever we cook wild game, I love thinking back to that hunt to reminisce and say another little prayer for the animal we harvested. Truly grateful to know where our food comes from most nights!!
My hunt was at Pineapple Brothers in Lanai ! If you like the idea of a Hawaii vacation that weaves in hunting in the morning / evening and pool throughout the day.. that’s your place!

If you’re looking for an easy weeknight dinner that you can throw in the crockpot, is family-friendly, customizable, and packed with flavor, I filmed the full step-by-step so you can follow along:
Wild Game Mississippi Pot Roast
Serve with:

Don’t blink because you’ll miss this.. Seriously, it’s THAT easy.
1. Grab Some Wild Game
First, add your thawed roast to a crockpot and top with all of the ingredients: Au Jus, Ranch, 1 stick of butter and 1 jar of pepperoncini’s. You can add the liquid from the peppers but NO water. *Crazy, I know, but trust me!

2. Cook on low for 6-8 hours
Literally walk away and go on with your day! The best kind of meals, am I RIGHT?!
3. Shred your wild game
Now that your house smells amazing and it’s 6-8 hours later, go ahead and shred your roast with shredders or a fork. If it pulls apart easily, it’s probably ready to eat! I like to let mine sit in the juices for a little bit after I shred it. Speaking of juices, I swore I would have regretted no water, but just look at how much juice is in there!

4. Serve!!
I ended up serving mine on some fresh sourdough. (PS- I loooove my sourdough slicer, I’m gonna link it here.) I added a little Cooper cheese and then added my shredded roast on top. I also added a little herbs from my garden and honestly, it was really only to make it look pretty, not gonna lie, but still recommend!

Life is so extremely busy and honestly I have been feeling a little out of touch with cooking lately. Who wants to cook after running all day and in-between all the evening sports, dance etc??!!
This recipe took such minimal effort, consisted of ONLY 4 INGREDIENTS (and ones that I can easily keep stocked in my pantry) and ended up tasting absolutely amazing. It took all of 5 minutes to prep and walk away from and when I came back, dinner was ready to be served. No mess, one crockpot to clean. It’s just a win all around.
It’s packed with protein and also such a great option for wild game if you have a cut that might be a little gamey- the flavor of the ingredients totally overpowers any of that gamey taste so this really is a great option if you’re looking to hide that!
