It’s FINALLY cooling off in the South – AMEN, HALLELUJAH, I LOVE FALL – and I could not be more excited to finally get outside and shoot my bow without sweating through my shirt – gross! Shooting is one of my favorite things to do. I find it therapeutic, I use it as a way to relax, regroup and focus during my busy life AND I absolutely love when Tim comes out to shoot for some friendly competition. People always ask me about my archery setup, so…here’s the scoop on the latest and greatest. Whether you are a beginner or advanced these are my FAVORITE products that I’ve used for years and I know you will love them as much as I do! Obviously I’m a little biased (since half of these products are my own Eva Shockey signature items…) but I worked hard with these companies to come up with archery gear that wasn’t available on the market and fit my personal archery needs. All of these products are available at your local Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops (or online) other than the ES Signature Series Bow, which is available at your local Bowtech-dealer archery shop. So, whether you’re a die-hard bowhunter or a brand new target shooter, here we go…
ES Signature Series Bow from Bowtech
Of course this is a MUST-HAVE for the serious female archer. Together with Bowtech, I spent two years perfecting the design just for YOU… It’s fast, forgiving, and loaded with features designed specifically for women bowhunters all in a lightweight package making it easy to take with you on any adventure! I am also a huge fan of the BLUE accents, which make it stand out from the rest of the bows on the market and I actually shoot wayyyyy better than I’ve ever shot, now that I use the ES bow. It was Bowtech’s BEST SELLER and I have yet to hear any bad feedback about it! Also, another AWESOME plus, is that the cam system is so high-tech, it actually allows me to shoot more weight than any other bow I previously used. I used to shoot 48lbs but with the ES Signature Series bow, I immediately jumped up to 52lbs and now I shoot 54lbs consistently. This bow is FAST, ACCURATE and DEADLY!
This is a true life saver for me. All the releases on the market look the same (yawwwn) so I asked Trufire to design my own release that resembled a trendy bracelet (hello, caramel-colored leather) but has the functionality of the best release on the market. It is also designed for smaller wrists and hands – for us girls – but still provides a smooth trigger pull resulting in pinpoint accuracy shot after shot. Even when I flinch, this release somehow still manages to put my arrow where I am aiming. Looks good and shoots great – WIN WIN!
I love my IQ bow sight because it takes a lot of the guesswork out of sighting in a bow…. and makes me a better shooter than Tim 😉 – haaaa. I have been using an IQ Site since I first started shooting and I have yet to find a product that allows me to shoot as accurately as this one. IQ Site also has a floating single pin site which I am about to try out, so I’ll let you know how it goes!
Muzzy broadheads (3 blade trocar tips)
My Muzzy Trocars are by far my favorite broadheads to shoot for hunting season. The blades are scary sharp (I accidentally nicked my bowstring on a hunt last year… that was the end of my bow hunt! Lesson learned!) and gives me more confidence in the field once I make my shot because they fly true and hit where I aim. I have used these exact broadheads on nearly all of my archery hunts and they’re the BEST!
I love this target because I can see the white-on-black contrast from any distance and at any time of the day. It is a total steal because all four sides can be used for shooting so it lasts forever and I don’t have to constantly replace it over the years. The arrows are easy to remove so I spend more time shooting, not retrieving (unless I miss it altogether… which can happen ha).
So there it is! My archery set-up summary for everyone to see. Honestly, there are so many incredible products on the market that you can use and at the end of the day, you don’t need the BEST or NEWEST gear, you just need to make the time to go out and shoot. I hope you find this helpful or if you know anyone who would love this information, please pass it along! If you have another topic you want me to blog about or have any questions, comment below!!
In the meantime, get out there and SHOOT!
xx Eva

Hi Eva,
I’m new to archery and would have loved to start with your increduble bow but unfortunately wasn’t able to get one .The ES truefire release was easy to find and it fits me great.
After a lot of research I finally got the Diamond Knockout bow which is designed by women too :)) and will start soon.
Since I’m a bloody beginner , my drawweight is low :)) What kind of exercises would you recommend ? (Maybe another bog post?)
What is the size of the block target , please ?
Thank you :))
Pull your bow back every day and hold it for at least 30 seconds, increasing a bit more evryday. Practice drawing but not firing(never dry fire always bring the string back slowly). Target shoot a lot but don’t overdo it – stop before you get sore, increase the amount of arrows by 3 or so until you can shoot 12 or more in succession. Start your routine minimum 3 months prior to hunting season, or all year long to keep muscle. Obviously start with whatever draw weight you can handle and every few weeks increase the weight by 5 pounds (or more if you are able) until you are legal draw weight or better.
There’s not a lot of specific exercises, but starting small and working up with your bow will get those muscles built up.
Can you blog about what you wear on really cold hunts or ice fishing?
I am going to forward your post to my husband for gift ideas! 🙂 I currently shoot a youth PSE because I’m just a little over 5 foot, but soon enough, our kids are going to need a bow. And I think Mommy should be the one to get a new set-up, right?!
My 6 year old daughter has been expressing an interest in archery. Do you have any beginner gear suggestions and tips to get her started? Thanks!
Hi Eva! Been shooting your Bowtech for the past 2 years and love it! Was wondering what case you store yours in? My bow case needs a remodel!
Hey Eva,
Can you talk about the arrows a bit? What arrows do you use? Carbon, aluminum, Size, shaft weight? Did you find you needed to switch arrows going from 48lbs to 54lbs? I am shooting 48lbs with a 500 7.3 arrow. I am trying to get stronger and increase lbs but should I except to buy new arrows? Could you also touch on the Accubow? Thoughts?
Love your thoughts and opinions!
Thanks!
Do you know where I can purchase your bow? I’ve been looking everywhere for it!
Anywhere that sells bow tech, I had to have mine ordered in but it was fast came in 2 days.
What rest are you using?
I love my ES Signature Series bow. By far the lightest and fastest bow I have ever shot! What stabilizer and quiver do you use?
Hey Eva, I was wondering if you could blog about what scent control shampoos and conditioners you use. I know myself that what I use doesn’t always take away the smelly good stuff and what about other hair products like moose or hairspray? Thanks!
I received my ES Trufire release for my birthday this past July and I LOVE it. It’s super light weight and comfortable. I feel so confident when shooting so I can’t wait to officially make my first bow kill with it. My fiancé and I actually use Block targets as well, we love them! Seems like they last forever. Really enjoyed this blog post!!
Hi Eva,
I’m interested in starting archery for hunting purposes, but am a complete newbie. What bow/gear would you recommend for a beginner who isn’t ready to spend a large sum of money until they are more experienced?
Thanks,
Sarah
Absolutely love your release! I’m upgrading my sight and stabilizer and wanted to know what stabilizer you use?
Thanks for gives point to point tips on the archery.
