Archery 101: Intro to Shooting a Bow

  1. Cassie says:

What exercises (other than practicing shooting) do you recommend to help get stronger for a heavier draw?

  2. Sonja Heath says:

Yes! I’ve said for a long time that if I have a rough day at the office, I shoot my bow when I get home. You have to forget everything else while shooting. It really is therapy!

  3. Kyle Warmack says:

What bow would you recommend for beginning bow hunter? I have fallen in love with hunting again the last few years and want to continue ways to challenge myself and I want to start with the bow.

  4. Lacy says:

I bought my first bow about 4 years ago. I have not been able to use it to hunt, yet! But I do plan on using it this season. How often do I need to change out my strings? Or how can I tell that they need to be changed? I wax them regularly but have never replaced them.

So fun! I have a friend who is really into archery and it seems super fun to me. I love the outdoors and hiking. Recently I’ve gotten into setting up trail cameras and trying to get pictures of deer and elk. I’ve had some success with using an attractant and the pictures are so fun to get. https://www.critterlick.com/

  7. Sarah says:

Hey, Do you have an intro into proper stance and how to use a compound?
    Thanks

  8. Denise Procious says:

It is something my husband and I enjoy doing together. We try and shoot our bows for practice at least 3 times a week. Some nights we are dialed in and other nights he says just shoot to keep your strength up.

  9. Shelbi Prouty says:

I have always loved following your posts, I recently got a Bowtech bow for Christmas and looking for a good rest. I am looking to do purple for my bow colors.

  10. Yay finally! I got your bow a few years ago and have been looking for information on setting it up and increasing my draw weight. Thank you! Any suggestions on videos with proper technique that can help? I have days where I hit the bullseye every time at 30 yards and days when I’m WAY off. Other times I hit the bullseye the first round and after that, something changes and I can’t hit it if my life depended on it.

  11. David L Nelson says:

In my humble opinion, bow hunting takes the intensity of hunting to the next level. You have to be close enough to spit on them…. And that is intense…. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Bow hunting take the intensity of hunting to the next level, and I’m always getting spotted by the game before I get a shot… Any ideas?

  13. CJ says:

I started archery hunting in 1983 with a compound bow. I was six months pregnant and my first harvest was a buck with my first arrow. I am now 58 and shoot a recurve instinctive. Love, love, love it…if we aren’t hunting, we are in the forest “stump” shooting at least 3 weekends a month.
