Hungry for more of the lake house tour? Grab a snack because today’s stop is the kitchen! I am particularly proud of this room since it underwent the most dramatic transformation in the entire house. You won’t believe what a completely new color pallet did! I already loved the open layout of the kitchen, especially with the extra long bar top where guests can sit and I can still socialize while whipping up dinner. And while I don’t love spending a tooooon of time in here when we’re at the lake, it’s still an important space for people to gather.
One of the first changes I knew I wanted to make right away in the kitchen was to paint the cabinets. Don’t get me wrong, the dark cherry wood was gorgeous and gave off a cabin’y vibe, but white has my heart, and it completely brightened and modernized the space. Since the cabinets were already in great shape, all we had to do was paint. I went with Gray Otter (SP28) -20% from Spectrum Paint. The slight blue/green undertones compliment the stainless steel appliances beautifully. The final touch came down to the hardware. I chose the Ascendra Pull in Ash Gray from Top Knobs for its modern square silhouette and muted contrast. Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make alllll the difference.
At first, we weren’t going to change the countertops (Tim’s idea), but after seeing how beautifully the cabinets turned out, I knew that I had to stay true to my love for white on white. I went with Caesarstone’s Frosty Carrina. OBSESSED is an understatement. First of all, Caesarstone is the pioneer of quartz countertops (plus, it offers a lifetime warranty), and that’s the only material I trust when it comes to my countertops. It’s stronger and more durable than other materials, not to mention nonporous and nonabsorbent, which means no bacteria and stains. A BIG WIN for this busy Mama who loves to host. Frosty Carrina is a gorgeous ivory-white color that features powdery-grey veining for subtle elegance. I love how it complimented our rustic off-white approach for the cabinets and backsplash!
If you’re looking for beautiful quartz countertops that will stand the test of time, I highly recommend Caesarstone! They are AH-MAZING to work with, their countertops are manufactured right here in the USA, and their craftsmanship is top-notch!!
As for the backsplash, I went with my tried and true White Subway Tile from the local Triangle Tile & Stone in Raleigh. This is the backsplash in my main house (Altea 3×12 White Subway) and I love the classic subway style with that added rustic flair.
The final piece of the kitchen reno puzzle was the bar lighting. I liked the idea of single pendant lights hanging over the bartop, but I needed them to be much bigger and beefier. The Hicks Small Pendant in Antique Nickel from Circa Lighting was just what the doctor ordered! The Antique Nickel finish gives off major modern rustic vibes, tying in perfectly with the theme of the house.
The bartop was by far one of my favorite things in the kitchen! Having both an island AND this extra counterspace/seating is a host’s dreeeeam. Of course, the same gorgeous Caesarstone countertop was also used here. As for the paint, I wanted a pop of color that reflected the lake. Enter Sherwin-Williams Portsmouth +20%. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves on this one!
For the kitchen sink, I opted to switch out the faucet for a more showstopping one that I knew I had to have when I came across it on Nina William’s Blog – thanks, girl! The Broderick Two Handle Pull-Down Bridge from Delta.
And finally, the BARSTOOLS! I originally had other barstools ordered (but didn’t have the best experience with them), so instead, I took a chance and ordered the Bailey Woven Stools from Ballard Designs. BEST. DECISION. EVER. They came super quickly, and they fit the space perfectly. 10/10 recommend these.
That’s a wrap on the kitchen tour, y’all! Thanks for coming along on this one. There’s still lots more lake house to explore, including the master suite, so don’t go anywhere!
