I can’t believe I’m saying this after two years, but our FOREVER HOME IS COMPLETE!!! Can you believe that!?!? It feels like an absolute DREAM!!! I have so much to share and will do a full home tour of each of the rooms with allllll the deets once we’re completely moved-in and settled, but I’m going to start by catching you up on allllll the fun stuff that’s been happening since my last home build update in September. This is a long one, so let’s do this!

First of all, one of the most STUNNING features of the home is our lighting fixtures that I just can’t stop staring at. We sourced nearly all of our lighting (interior and exterior) from Circa Lighting and I couldn’t be happier with the end result. I am definitely going to give our lighting it’s own blog, but I need to mention it here because it is just #lightinggoals and needs all the attention it can get. Check out some of these fixtures…. SWOON!

Next, the country girl in me could not love our reclaimed wood built-ins and beams any more than I do. We found a super cool company in the mountains of North Carolina called Appalachian Antique Hardwoods and got them to make some custom mudroom cabinets/cubbies as well as the most beautiful reclaimed accent beams around the house (beams supporting our kitchen pendants, our fireplace mantel and a few other places!). I sent them design inspiration from Pinterest (are you following me on Pinterest, by the way?! If not, you should!!) and THIS is what they came up with. They absolutely nailed the design and I love that their wood is literally salvaged from hundred+ year-old barns and buildings with incredible stories behind them…and now they live in our home. How cool is that?! They work alllll over the US (after we found them, I found out they actually have outfitted some of my friends’ homes in the outdoor industry) so if you love this style, you need to get in touch with them!

Our fireplace is Tim’s happy place. He created this dreamboat with the help of the experts at Stone Center of Carolina. We used “Old Charleston” for the dry stacked stone and “Coyote Gray” for the massive hearth. We LOVE having a fire in the winter months, so we will be spending a ton of time around this beauty.

Our plumbing fixtures are also in and it’s a huge relief to know that we chose some killer styles over a year ago when I had to pull the trigger on these fixtures well before I had the design concept nailed down for the rest of the house. Rick from R. Jacobs Fine Plumbing and Hardware out of Raleigh was our guy for all our faucets and sinks throughout our house, and he has the patience of a saint. We actually picked out these elements WAY early on in the building process and then had to plan a lot of our other design elements AROUND the plumbing (which is probably a backwards way of doing things… but that’s just how it worked out) and Rick was just the best ever for helping me through this process. He was also a savior in picking out our hardware for all of our exterior and interior doors. We used Rocky Mountain Hardware for our front door and Baldwin for the rest of our doors.

The wood throughout our house gives me alllll the feels. To start, the wood floors from Hallmark Flooring got installed (thanks in part to the handiwork of my hubby, Tim, who is a jack of all trades!) and they are exactly what I pictured. We used “Alta Vista Malibu” which is an engineered hardwood and the perfect combination of a light-color with enough warmth to bring out the beams and help ground the home, which is mostly painted white.

Second, I loveeee heavy, solid wood doors. All of our interior white doors are from Door Works, which is a company out of Huntersville, NC.  They are all 8′ tall, and built to our specifications with insanely beautiful craftsmanship. They are heavy and chunky and just plain old dreamy. We have two sets of BARN DOORS in the house and these also melt my heart! I had these custom made from Rustica Hardware. I got to pick the stain color (I think they actually named it “Eva” because I basically made up my own color -ha!) and the exact style of all of the doors. Their website is customizable, from the door styles all the way to the hardware and it was so fun to create exactly what I had in mind!

All of our floor tiles for our bathrooms and laundry room have been installed for awhile but they were covered up (to protect them from the construction process) for months so I feel like they JUST got installed and it was like Christmas when I finally saw them uncovered! We got all of our tile from Triangle Tile and Stone in Raleigh and they are dreamy!!! My design inspo for our home is definitely farmhouse, but I also didn’t want it to be too far over on the rustic side so I picked a combination of rustic and simple–and it worked out perfectly. Here are some sneak peaks at some of the tiles I picked! If you like any of the styles, you can give them a call and they can give you the rundown of what I chose!

After our cabinetry was completely installed, our hardware from TopKnobs was added and it’s PERFECT. I used the Aspen Collection for most of the house because it’s rustic with a bit of a distressed finish and also feels chunky and heavy in your hand so it matches the style of our home. I’m not a fan of delicate or fancy finishes, as you might notice with our thick beams and big hardware. When I first saw the hardware installed, to be totally honest, it was WAY WAY bigger than I had imagined and I panicked for a hot minute but I quickly fell in love with how chunky they are and how it makes my kitchen unique. Now they’re one of my favorite features!

Our appliances are in and they are INSANE! I’ve never had fancy appliances but we picked Miele Appliances for our major pieces in our kitchen and scullery and it doesn’t feel like real life. I love, love, LOVE entertaining so I have two 30” fridges in my kitchen for alllllll the food and space to keep it organized. If you don’t know this about me, I am an organizational FREAK and need everything to always have a place, so having the space to organize makes my heart happy. We also have the Miele 48” range, which has been my dream for years to have a big, industrial-sized stove so I can cook up a storm for our friends and family. Along with a second wall oven in the scullery, I could literally cook for an entire hockey team in my kitchen now…just in case Leni or baby Boone ever follows in daddy’s footsteps!

It’s been really crazy to see the design elements start coming together because I didn’t use a designer and have been sweating that all the gazillions of decisions I made along the way wouldn’t end up looking good but so far, minus a few small hiccups, everything looks just how I imagined it or better! It sure helps to have an incredible builder and some amazingggggg vendors who are handling all the heavy lifting.
